! Ener1 Sees Hybrid Battery Costs Halving

US: September 1, 2008

LOS ANGELES - Ener1 Inc will be able to cut the cost of batteries for hybrid electric vehicles by 50 percent once its lithium-ion technology amasses scale, Chief Executive Charles Gassenheimer said on Friday.

The company, which has yet to sign a supply agreement with a major auto manufacturer, also said it expects to secure two new battery development deals by the end of this year. Those could eventually turn into mass-production agreements.
Ener1\'s lithium-ion battery unit, EnerDel, is supplying batteries to Norway\'s Think Global for the Think City all-electric vehicle, to be sold in Europe later this year.

Existing hybrid cars, including Toyota Motor Corp\'s Prius, use nickel-metal hydride batteries. Lithium-ion technology, however, is seen as key by automakers and suppliers to extend the electric-only range of hybrids.
PROVO, Utah - Five years after going public, geothermal company Raser Technologies Inc is on the verge of a major milestone: earning real revenue.

Later this year, the renewable energy producer will open its first power plant in the Utah desert near the tiny town of Minersville. The plant will use hot water from deep underground to produce power for about 9,000 homes in Anaheim, California, the hometown of Disneyland.
Seven more plants will come online next year, and Raser expects to see positive cash flow at the beginning of 2009.

\"After these first couple of plants come online I believe we will be cash flow positive,\" Cook said in an interview at Raser\'s Provo, Utah, headquarters on Wednesday. He would not say when the company expects to turn a profit.
! The Environmentalist\'s Nuclear Debate: (3) My response

My response to Mark Lynas:

Why is it that you support 4th generation nuclear when Concentrating Solar Power can provide such an enormous slice of the baseload generation required, without any of the political, environmental and social detriment of nuclear?

CSP is mature technology, overnight storage is not a problem, it will be fully commercialised by 2011 - 2012, when (going by current known contracts) 9GW will be online globally, and it is anticipated if expansion continues at a conservative rate of 29% per annum, then 200GW will be online by 2020 (compare with 100GW online for wind as of this year, after 25 years).
