Wave and Tidal Power

Tidal power systems may ultimately constitute only a minor proportion of global renewal energy resources, because they can only be installed in particularly favourable geographical locations. However, they enjoy significant advantages over wind power systems in that their output is essentially predictable. Wave power systems perhaps stand midway between tidal and wind power generators in this respect. The UK is very well placed for development of effective tidal and wave power projects, and a number of systems have been proposed or in some cases developed to the point of trial installations. A number of companies are apparently hoping to make commercial sales in the near future.

The Wikipedia article below covers barrage systems and shrouded turbine designs for tidal power generation. However, it does not mention unshrouded 'water mill' designs, although one 2-bladed system has been trialled off the N. Devon coast.
